The Newest Mortal Instrument Books!

I think most everyone knows that City of Fallen Angels, the fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series, is coming out in April 2011. Well, I just found out that there's going to be two more books following Fallen Angels.

These are not the real covers of course, just placeholders until the real ones are released.

City of Lost Souls is coming out in May 2012.

City of Heavenly Fire is coming out September 2013

I loved Clare's Mortal Instruments series, but I thought City of Glass also really wrapped up the series very nicely. I think The Clockwork Angel series is a great idea- a prequel with new characters that's just as exciting. (I'm in the middle of reading it right now, and I can tell you, it's good!) I'm very excited to read City of Fallen Angels, but I hope by Book 6 I might be sick of Clary, Jace, and Simon.
I love Clare's writing, so I trust she knows what she's doing with these next 3 books! I think they'll be great, and I'm very excited.

As for the plot of the next three books, here's what Clare says.
“The antagonist in the upcoming cycle has been mentioned but so far no one has guessed it which has been really fun for me,” Clare teases. She also said that new characters will be introduced including a female and a male that will shake up some relationships as we know them.

And here's a publication schedule, in case you want to keep track:
August 31, 2010: The Clockwork Angel
April 5, 2011: City of Fallen Angels
September 2011: The Clockwork Prince
May 2012: City of Lost Souls
December 2012: The Clockwork Princess
September 2013: City of Heavenly Fire

The short Goodreads summaries for books 5 and 6 are as follows:
In Book 5: City of Lost Souls, the Shadowhunters struggle to piece together their shattered world after a betrayal by one of their own leaves them reeling.
In Book 6: City of Heavenly Fire, Jace, Clary and their friends are drawn inexorably into a war that pits Heaven against Hell, angels against demons—a war that threatens to destroy our world entirely if the Shadowhunters can't end it first."

I am super excited about the release of these new books! How am I ever going to wait that long???
What do you think about the extension of the series with a release of 3 new books?

  1. Thanks for posting this! I actually had no idea she was going to continue the series.

  2. I'm surprised; I knew about the fourth, but not the fifth and sixth. In some ways it's exciting. I liked the original series a lot. In other ways, I don't like a story to get dragged out to the point where the character drama just keeps going and I get bored and resentful. I was pleased with the ending of the third book, and would be more likely to buy/read if she started a different series altogether, not even set in the same world. I'm glad you posted about this as well!

Thanks for the comments! I read every single one and try to reply, either on your blog or another comment! They make my day!

As of 1/17/11, Book Infinity is an awards-free blog. My schedule is busy as could be, and I don't have time to follow all the rules to pass them on. But I really do appreciate the thought, thanks so much for thinking about me!
